About the role

The client's insurance division is building a modern analytics platform on Snowflake. Actuarial, Finance and Risk teams need models they can trust at month-end close and in regulatory filings. Numbers must reconcile to the cent and every figure must trace back to its source.

You will own the data models end to end: conceptual, logical and physical. You will work with actuaries, finance analysts, data engineers and architects, and you will turn business questions about premiums, claims and reserves into clear, documented designs.

What you will do

  • Design conceptual, logical and physical models for the insurance data platform, covering life, health, creditor, travel and group benefits lines.
  • Build dimensional models (star schemas, conformed dimensions, SCD Type 2) for loss ratio, earned premium, reserve movement and monthly financial close.
  • Model the integration layer from policy admin, claims, billing and reinsurance systems, using Data Vault 2.0 or a 3NF approach where it fits.
  • Shape data structures for IFRS 17 reporting: groups of contracts, cohorts, CSM roll-forward and risk adjustment.
  • Write source-to-target mappings, grain definitions, business rules and a business glossary that engineers can build from directly.
  • Review physical designs and SQL with engineers, covering keys, clustering, performance and reconciliation controls.
  • Work within data governance: lineage, metadata, data quality rules, and privacy controls for personal health and financial data.

Entities you will model

  • Policy
  • Coverage / Rider
  • Party & Role
  • Premium Transaction
  • Claim
  • Claim Payment
  • Reserve
  • Reinsurance Treaty
  • Commission
  • Group of Contracts
  • Actuarial Assumption

What you bring

Must have

  • 8+ years of hands-on data modeling, including at least 3 years in insurance (life and health preferred; P&C also considered).
  • Strong understanding of the insurance policy and claims lifecycle: new business, endorsements, renewals, lapses, claims, reserving and reinsurance.
  • Expert in dimensional modeling (Kimball) and comfortable with Data Vault 2.0 or 3NF enterprise models.
  • Advanced SQL and experience modeling on a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, Databricks or Azure Synapse.
  • Experience with a modeling tool such as Erwin, ER/Studio, SqlDBM or PowerDesigner.
  • Clear communicator who can explain design trade-offs to actuaries and finance leads as well as engineers.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada, and able to pass a financial-institution background check.

Nice to have

  • IFRS 17 data or reporting project experience.
  • Familiarity with insurance reference models such as ACORD or IBM IIW.
  • dbt experience, and exposure to Collibra, Alation or a similar data catalog.
  • Knowledge of OSFI guidelines, SOX controls, or PIPEDA privacy requirements.
  • Prior work at a Canadian bank or insurer.
  • Industry designations such as LOMA (FLMI) or CIP.
